ILIT works on

• development of new algorithms for extracting, representing and manipulating meaning in natural languages; these include strictly semantic modules as well as morphological, syntactic and other auxiliary processors as well as control architectures for combining all of the above in comprehensive processing engines
• continued development of language-independent knowledge resources to support the above algorithms, including ontologies, models of intelligent agents and fact repositories
• descriptions of morphology, syntax and semantics (including pragmatics and discourse phenomena) of specific languages, using the above language-independent knowledge resources as the metalanguage of semantic description
• continued development of the knowledge representation substrate for encoding static knowledge resources and results of meaning extraction from texts
• developing language description and knowledge acquisition tools, methodologies and training materials
• building prototype application systems, e.g., the MOQA question answering system that use all of the above for practical needs

Much of the work at ILIT develops the theory and applications of ontological semantics. We also adhere to a particular research methodology that sets us apart from many other research centers in our field.
